Advanced Cataract Surgery

Getting Ready for Surgery

Cataract surgery is one of the safest, most effective types of surgery. It’s also one of the most successful. If you and Dr. Nelson decide that cataract surgery is right for you, our surgical technicians will measure your eye with the newest technologies avalaible to determine the proper power of the lens to be placed in your eye during surgery. This will minimize the need for glasses after surgery.

Dr. Nelson will ask you to decide which IOL is best for your visual needs and lifestyle. There are two basic types of IOLs, each designed for a specific corrective function.

Standard Lens

Monofocal (Distance Only, No Reading Ability)

Surgical IOLA Monofocal IOL is designed to provide clear distance vision. This means you will be able see objects far away. However, you will most likely need prescription glasses for reading and any type of “close” detailed work.

Monofocal IOLs have been successfully implanted providing cataract patients with clear distance vision, provided you do not have a significant amount of astigmatism. Patients choosing the monofocal IOL should expect to be dependant on bifocals or reading glasses after surgery.

Premium Lenses

Premium MultifocalMultifocal IOL’s (Bifocal – Distance & Near) & TORIC IOL’s

To acheive freedom from bifocals or reading glasses after cataract surgery patients are now choosing premium IOL’s. Dr. Nelson is one of the most experienced surgeons in the Charlotte area in implanting these premium lenses. The four Predmium IOL’s available are:

  • ReSTOR
